Default Removing Resonator in wing

I've done a search on here and it says for extra noise you can remove the resonator in the wing.

I have a 1994 WRX, with a green panel filter. How easy, and roughly how long would it take to remove this resonator in the wing? baring in mind I'm thick,

In other words, is it simple to remove for anyone?

Would appreciate some help before I attempt this afternoon.

Thanks

took me about an hour on my bugeye. Pretty straightforward TBH I chopped the large resonator piece off the pipe, sealed the hole on the pipe and put it back in, you will see what I mean when you get the assembly out of the wing.

And It will run fine with leaving this resonator out?
Will the splash guard come off and go back on easily?

when u remove the snorkel that feeds the cold air into the wing inside the engine bay, there will be a hole on the inside of the wing where the snorkel used to go into, u need to block this off to stop hot engine air getting into the airbox, cold air will be fed into the airbox via the airducts under the front indicators straight into the wing and thus into the airbox.

yes its a subaru part its just a plastic blanking plate think they are fitted as standard to the sport models as they dont have the snorkel. the part number was posted on here ages ago somebody will come along with it hopefully. think it cost me £7 iirc.

Right, blanking plate on order.

Just a quicky question, to remove the splash guard - is it a screw off and screw back on again? or a rip off and won't go back on?

Could someone please look at the attached images of my engine and confirm once I've taken out the inlet pipe in the inner wing I need to block the hole shown in the photo below.

PLEASE HELP!

hi,

yes that image you have circled is right. but you have not said if you are keeping your green filter and box or getting a cold air kit. if removing the snorkel and keeping your standard air box then i suggest that you find some metel/plasctic (pipe similar to what tumble driers have) similar to this flexi pipe =

Marley Tumble Drier Kit M430 White (L)1m, 5011141059791

to connect the box to the peace of pipe from the front of the bonnet. hope you can make sense of my poor writting!!

Thanks for your reply!!

I am keeping the green filter.

Would I have to remove the air box to blank that hole off or could I just slide the plate in?

When I remove the pipe and seal the hole, where would the airbox be getting its air feed?

Could you explain where the flexi piping would connect to the air box if I was to add it?

hi,

yes i believe you would have to remove the air box. i have not done it on a 94, but have on 98 and 03. when you remove the box there is a nut that sercures the snorkel on place. erm 8 0r 10mm i think!!

you can either seal the hole with the plate and run the flexi pipeat b&q store they had a metal and plastic piping. i got the metal one as cheaper. 75mm dia. i think. and ran this from the air box towards the fog light where you have the 3 gaps in the bumper. if you can understand where i mean!!!

or

if you have the plastic funnel type thing from the front of the engine bay, near the drivers side light. then you could do a U bend pipe and connect from the airbox to that funnel. the pipe to next to the fog light was easiest for me, as i already had the wheel off and the splash gaurd out of the way. i like the metal pipe as this was semi regid and can hold the shape well in the wing.

What would happen if I take the snorkel out, blocked the hole and left it as that?

not much, just more chance of getting the warm/hot air from the engine bay as the box isnt flush with the wing and you've not got the cold directional air being fed to it. ""possibly"" more chance of water getting in from the splash gaurd if that isnt sealed back proberly. BUT i do put possibly, not garrenteed that you will get water.

Would the piping you suggest go in replacement to the snorkel I'd take out? if so what would be the gain of taking the snorkel out to start with?

So how can I connect the new piping say from B&Q, to the airbox and to the front where you have circled? - sercurly without it likely to fall out!

If I do put this pipe in, I won't need a blanking plate will I - cause the hole will be filled with this new pipe?

Oh you don't have to go to any trouble, I really appreciate your help, it's just I always seem to go and do a job then get stuck because I don't know what to do so I wanted to be clear on all the possibilities before I begun! saves a lot of time.

So I should be able to just slightly push the pipe into the airbox - do you know the size that would be the best to use?

What clips did you use for the front?

also I think I mentioned earlier in this post, does the splash guard come off and on easily?

i just used the metal of the pipe and with some pliers and flat headed screwdriver, and just twisted/pushed the metal into the groves on the bumper. the airbox end= the pipe is slightly bigger that the hole, but i pushed it through then mushroom'ed it once in the air box so it doesnt fall out.

no trouble to go b&q as its not far from where im gettin lunch. could always get the food from the fast food van in the car park!!Lol

This info is really helping me out appreciate it.

Least this will save me from buying a blanking plate!

If you got a photo of the piping I'd need that would save me time, but please don't go out your way! Burger van food!! yum, I forgot my lunch today!! damn it!!

i left the burger van food alone at went to tesco's instead, prob both as bad!! the 3 pictures were taken on a mobile so not that great quality. the pipe is 100mm theres more than enough as it streches out! costs £4.98 which is halft the price of the plastic one!!!! it is called semi regid hose.

hope these help!!

FANTASTIC!!! THANKS SO MUCH,

So I will have cut this down to fit obviously! - is it worth getting any clips for the front grill or you think it should just bend over on the edges?

no worries!! happy to help.

yeah you will have to cut down. but as it is thin it will cut easily. suppose you could get some clips. but maybe if you have the use of another vehicle, then put the piping in and when you come to the bumper end, just take it as u see it. if u need clips and they will fit easily enough then do that or screws or cable tie(prob ugly) or gardeners wire(like the old fashion food ties that you would get with plastic bags). i cant remember what they was in the bumper to connect it to(it was summer 2007 and no pictures!!!)

I'll let you know how I get on!

Though as for the splash guard in the wheel arch, is that easy to go on and off?
