Default Silicone hose for intercooler - necessary upgrade when remapping?

Hi,
Is it necessary to change the silicone hose between the intercooler and turbo to a silicone one when remapping the car? Prodrive uses one in their PPP package, is it only for decorative purposes or does the OE hose contract due to higher boost pressures being used?
Cheers

I would, improves smooth air flow as opposed the the grated interupted flow you get with the OEM item.

Do you know where I can get one from and what diameter I need?
I am looking at SFS Performance - Silicone Hoses but can't find one for the 2007 WRX.

Seem to stop at the Ver8 WRX's.

Email RCMS and ask if they do them in the samco or phone Keith at Revolution who do forge ones as well.

Also worth looking at these guys who make them up.

I thought of replacing only the wide short hose that is just in front of the intercooler, is there a name for it?

I'd have thought that the OEM short hose would have been sufficient.....it's only about 2 inches long and straight

People are talking about the "Y" shaped hoses which I think are metal on STi's
