its an easy job, its the first thing i did on my scooby

remove the ai intak thing

remove coil pacs

remove breather hose

undo the 6 bolts holding cover on, install revurs of removing, jobs a gud n.

if its the passenger side, instead of having to remove the intake you need to remove battery and washer tank.

Right Hand is drivers side ( Cylinders 1+3 )
Unless the half moons(2 per side) are cracked/broken,you just need to clean the old sealant off them, and fill the groove on the half moon with new sealant on re-assembly.
You will need the Cam Cover Gasket and the 2 spark plug hole gaskets and a tube of 1215 Grey 3 Bond Sealant.

i will advise against using none OEM rocker gaskets

i supplied a replica set for my recent engine swap and they were pissing out oil with ease!!!!!

had to put off picking up my car by nearly a week while i sourced some genuine subaru ones (that now dont leak)

this is the chap i bought mine from (genuine)

The oil tends to sit in the heads, when you take the cover off it will get a little messy! Did mine on me last scoob, not a problem,a ratchet spanner makes it easier.
I applied a thin layer of 3 bond to the whole gasket, making sure the corners where the cam seal cover is had more,as this is prone to leaking,i didn't want to have to do it again so probably a bit ott.
Also,3 bond is expensive, but don't be tempted to get cheaper stuff,3 bond really is good!

cool, finally got the parts, just the rubber gasket off the named guy above, and some genuine 3 bond -tenner a go mind!

gona do it over the weekend.

only question left is how do you remove the coil packs, is it straight forward, are there any clips, or bolts holding thewm in?

all the rest should straight forwards enough

Has anyone mentioned new seals that fit under the cover bolts? You'll need 6 as the old ones will be all hard now.

Washer Part No 13271AA051 £14.76
Gasket Part No 13270AA040 £11.07
Half Moons Part No 13293AA030 £7.94
Coil Pack gasket Part No 11051AA070 £9.78

Prices above plus VAT and were total for all the parts needed.

The part no's were the ones on the invoice so may mean something different to other dealers.

Total I paid was £51.17 less a little bit for being necky

Be carefull when using the sealant, you don't want too much as it breaks off and could potentially block some oil ways, I've seen it a couple of times now

With removing the coil packs, it's just a single bolt (11mm I think) that stays with the coil pack. When you undo it, try and stop the coil pack from twisting as this is what generally causes damage ie cracking at the point where the spark plug sits in under the rubber cover. The plugs can stay in the head.

With the bolt undone, simply pull the pack out and move it out the way. When refitting, get them as central in the hole as poss and push on to the plug, then you will need to prevent them twisting again as you tighten the bolt. Remember the bolt does not need to be that tight.

Clean up both cylinder head and rocker cover mating surfaces until they are imaculate. Take care not to leave any sealant on the cams or around that area when you are scraping the old stuff off.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago, easy job, just take your time and enjoy it. Tighten up the cover bolts in sequence ie I did the top then bottom, then each diagonally opposite corner a couple of turns at a time until nipped up, again, only a single white knuckle, no need to lean on the spanner

coil packs are 12mm. Again, a ratchet spanner will help.
