Exclamation TEMP GAUGE... BUT FOR WHAT ???

My WRX has the OEM 92-96 optional Lamco triple gauge set (for boost pressure, battery voltage...... and temp). But what temp does this measure: ambient air temp, intake temp or what? It can't be for coolant temp, as the scale only goes upto 50deg C

Does anyone know for certain what it's supposed to be measuring?

ambient temp iirc. I did once follow the wire but once round the tank and my mind is blank.

Yeah tath, that's what I thought. I'm sure I've read it somewhere but can't recall (that's what being 40 does for you lol).

Thing is, if it is for that, then I'm certain mine isn't very accurate, cause on more than one occasion it has indicated 20+ deg on fairly cold days

Assuming it is ambient temp, it's a pretty tricky thing to measure if you put the sensor near an engine lol

I think the reason I followed the wire was because I was so confused at the spurious readings it used to give... Doesn't a V1/2 have no inlet temp probe anyway but a v3- does due to obd?

Indeed, about 9.15 this morning it was indicating c.24deg lol! I agree with your view about the sensor invariably being affected by the engine's/underbonnet temperatures.

I wouldn't know about the different temp probes on v.1/2s and v.3s

Exclamation

Last night it read 35deg!. This morning was a more realistic 15deg.

It really does give spurious readings, lol...

Are you a fan of holding a conversation with yourself in cyberspace?... Can it actually get any sadder?
