Standard WRX oil cooler
Why has the MY93 (version 1) WRX engine got an oil cooler on the oil filter and my new version 1 sti engine doesn't? does it need it or does it need another type of oil cooler?

no oil cooler on any of the scoobs as standard, they do have a modien (sp) which transfers heat from the oil to the water going through the rad (if my understanding is correct)
as far as an oil cooler, yep you can get proper ones, there around £450 ish fitted and sit between the lower and upper slam panel infront of the rad (and behind the fron mount if you have one).
they need a thermostatic valve to make sure there not making things too cool, but id you go to a tuner they should fit one as part of the kit.
heres mine mid fitment

I think the OP means the oil modine? which is present between the oil filter and engine block (also has pipes from the water pump connected).
As far as I know all imprezas have them fitted.
My chancer of a mate has been running his car for a year without one!! But I certainly wouldn't recommend it!
