Default 1997 turbo2000 missing under any load

hey all,
i have a 1997 turbo2000 wagon,
basicly under any amount of load the car misfires/hesitates and sounds as if its dropping to 3 cylinders, and will not rev over 5.2ish k rpm, if you back off the throttle it will return to 4 cylinders and drive as normal, but as soon as you touch the throttle again, the missing comes back, there are odd occasions that the car will suddenly stop missing for a few seconds under load and run perfect but just not for long, few seconds tops till it returns to the missing, which makes me think that maybe an electrical issue?
apart from the missing, the engine runs great, no smoke, knocks or bangs
now ive tried the following parts to try and cure this but to no avail,
new plugs
new leads
new afm

im new to the scooby scene and not massivly clued up on them so any advice or tips would be greatly apreciated

Thanks

right, just re checked all plug gaps, refitted all plug leads and did a compression test which is spot on, i also add a few extra earths from battery to engine, took it for a spin and it seemed perfect for the first 5 mins, no missing,no misfires ect, then as it got to normal running temp the problem came back, it really has me stumped now, are coolant temps sensors known to cause this type of problem?
thanks

hi there, i have exactly the same symptoms you were experiencing except mine seems to miss a beat when hot or cold, i also have changed plugs and leads, car in good nick, no oil or water loss, no smoking. at a loss with it, when you excellerate its really bad between 4000-5000 rpm then excellerates through. returns about 28 m.p.g normal driving no check engine lights coming up.
Did you get to the bottom of your probs?

any help would be much appreciated.

my car is 99 forester 2.0 sturbo/EJ205 Engine.
