Question Idle control valve or MAF?

MY99 UK turbo. When cold the car has been suffering from a misfire/hesitation similar to not getting fuel. Occurs intermittently for 10-20 secs then clears. Runs fine when hot. Idle speed when cold 1300 rpm hot 800 rpm. I've changed fuel filter and plugs but no cure. Car has 127,000 miles MAF last changed at 75,000 when the coil pack was also changed. There are no check engine messages. Before I go getting bits does anyone have any ideas?

TIA Pat

Get it to a specialist mate. 2 minute diagnostic will tell you if its the MAF! Saves getting bits to no end. Also, drive the car off boost till the MAF's health is confirmed as giving the car the beans with a faulty maf can be a death sentence for the engine!

Whereabouts are you?

DIY test: with the car idling, unplug the maf. It should stall. If it doesn't the maf is most likely faulty.

I'm in N.Ireland. Just unplugged the MAF car hunted for a couple of secs then stalled. It fired up just fine with the MAF still unplugged though.

Thanks

MAF changed ecu reset and car's running great. Should have done it ages ago but I suppose its hard to notice a gradual change.

Thanks NS04
