Default Unleaded or super unleaded??

Hello everyone

Im wonderin if anyone can tell me if you have to run a standard 2000 subaru impreza on super unleaded (99). Ive been told it could end blowing piston 4 if I use just normal unleaded, Is this true?

Many Thanks

UK spec cars are designed to run on 95 RON but to get the most out of it then 97+ is better (as Tidgy said and also Prodrive i think recommended it)

Also whoever told you about no 4 piston is stupid imo as the commonest problem is no 3 piston (as it's closest to the turbo and gets a little hotter) but that only happens if you treat the car like crap and decide to do high speed runs all the time.

I found my MY99 hated 95 Ron the first day I bought it. My knock sensor flickered like a christmas tree. I now use 99 ron only and it's fine (it is on an APEXI ecu though)

97RON should be the minimum for imprezas really but don't use 95 especially in an STI.

I've always run my 1998 UK model Impreza on 95Ron fuel. Its done 92,000 miles now

Imports from Japan I hear is an issue, as they do require higher octane fuel, which I think often gets mistaken as being true for the UK market cars when it isn't always the case.

Yea, Japan's fuel is at 99-102RON so any scoob imported to this country from there has to run on as close as poss. In are case in the UK - 99 Ron seems to be the highest. I was advised running Octane Boost for best performance

Early imprezas didn't run on 100RON and adding octane booster is a waste o f time, imo, unless you can't get 97+RON.
