Default New Subaru ECU reverse engineering project for Classics

Hi everyone, my name is oldhat and some friends and I decided to start an ECU reverse engineering project. Our project is less than 24 hours old and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. There just aren't many tuning options for the 2.5RS ECU here in the U.S. except for a single reflash on the market, plus the swapped guys are losing support for their turbo EJ20Gs and EJ20Ks, since they're getting older. Apexi recently discontinued the PowerFC for those JDM motors (plus Apexi is in bankruptcy now, along with Trust/Greddy -- sad times). So we have to get our hands dirty.

Here is the main thread:

Let's reverse engineer a Subaru ECU. No, really, let's do it. - The RS Club

Just letting you know that this project is going on and we will share anything new we learn. If you have any experience with ECUs, Jecs chips, chip architecture, programming, tuning, compiling, assembly or machine code or just want to take a look what what we're doing, please feel free to drop by the thread and watch the trainwreck, or give us a hand! Everyone on RS25.com is really cool and there to learn and get the most out of their cars.

Cheers,

oldhat

Sorry for the bump but do any of you guys have Euro spec ECUs you'd be willing to dump the ROM off of? One long term goal with this project is to get a comprehensive list of every Subaru ECU with their respective ROMs. Even if you just crack open your cases and take snaps of the chips and circuit board, it would be a HUGE help.

Cheers,

oldhat

oldhat, If you haven't already you might want to check over on the OpenECU and RomRaider forums. I thought 'colby' had or was cracking the Classic's - he's done our Newage for a number of years now.

We maintain a list of all our ECU ROMs here along with manufacturer updates over the years:

Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / ECU Version Compatibility List

More than happy for you to add links to your Classic ROMs also.

I'll keep track of your project as it would be great to add other articles relating to your project.
-Steve.

P.S. This software project is tentatively called Subie S.M.A.R.T., the Subaru Management and Research Tool. Sound catchy? Domain going live very soon. Stay tuned.
