onboard diagnostic
just wanted to know if anyone has used an onboard diagnostic tool before as i would like to know whats going on with her all the time without taking her to the garage. is there a windows based one that i can plug into car and laptop also was told you can map 99 uk turbo on standard ecu is this right. if so is it advised as i want to preserve my engine life, the whole car is standard apart from centre section and backbox.

I belive you can have an ECUtek remap on a my99. Certainly says so on Scoobyclinics site anyway.
DeltaDash looks a good bit of kit if a little pricey at around £215
Im sure someone more knowledgabe than me will be along later to point you in the right direction

You can re-map MY99/00 ecus no worries - ECUTEK.
For on board diagnostics, there's some free software that's really useful called 'ecuexplorer' (great bit of software), you can see live sensor readouts, as well as the facility to log a journey or power run. The software is free, but you have to buy a cable for 'Tactrix' which was about $50. IIRC.
There's also another device (which was partly developed on my car) called OBDKEY. This basically plugs into the OBD port under you dash and talks to your PDA/Laptop via bluetooth. It has some nice features similar to ecuexplorer and is also graphically a lot more pleasing on the eye.
^Not sure what state this product is in yet. Not sure if he's started to sell yet, but looked pretty good at the time.
HTH.

no point remapping a standard car on a standard ecu, there are better ways to spend 700 odd quid, like save it in the bank, cos you seem really paranoid that your car is going to go bang.
