ok as some know i bought an STi Genome silencer. well it arrived today... disaster!



this is the description of what i bought by the seller :



SUBARU STI GENOME BACK BOX

THESE ARE VERY RARE AND COME FROM JAP SPEC STI MODELS

IT HAS A 4 1/2'' TAIL PIPE AND SOUNDS AMAZING FOR ORIGINAL UP RATED EXHAUST,

THESE WERE A UP GRADE ON LIMITED JAP SCOOBYS

WILL FIT ALL CLASSICS, IT WAS REMOVED FROM A STI VERSION 3, IT WAS A CLOSE FIT



so i buy it, it arrives and i fit it.

and this is it beside the NEWAGE prodrive rear silencer i removed







both pipes are the same length, both boxes are the same size, but the tailpipe on the genome is about 2.5 inches longer than the prodrive and is so stuck out you could trip on it.

the black pipe going to the centre box was painted by me prior to fitting as it was looking a bit tired and grubby.

so my question is.



what car is this actually for?


needless to say its now off and sitting in my garage. can anything i do to this bloody car go right 1st time?

That is MASSIVE! There's nothing worse than an exhaust that sticks out like that, it looks terrible...

some reckon its for a forester? Would it even fit a legacy?

There's no way its going on the car, so itll be being returned or sold, but if I'm selling it I'd like to give buyers the correct info

ok, having got home form work and hunted everywhere.

the tradional Genome box we all know and love seems to be the same for the legacy, the forester and the impreza, i cant find pictures of this pipe anywhere.

the pipe hasnt been cut shut or welded, so its definately original.

The seller i bought it from sells LOADS of subaru bits on ebay and should know their stuff ok.

but its definately NOT for a GC8 impreza as said in the description. I`d personally rather find out what ts for and sell it on to someone with that model of car, then buy the correct exhaust, rather than butcher a perfectly good Genome

as its unlikely i`ll get a refund

so any info on what this may fit would be great? a few guys have said forester, but again searching i cant find pics or anything

If its any help i deal with a lot of Blitz exhausts at work.. and the Legacy backboxes have a nearly doubly as long tail pipe as the Impreza backboxes..

Get it a nice red velvet codpiece!
It is proobably for a Forester. Modern Leggies have rear sections that bear no resemblance at all to Imprezas or Fozzies. The mounting brackets run parallel to the silencer.
A Foz box will have slightly different mounting brackets to the Impreza. They are longer, allowing the silencer to hang lower, by about 1 1/2".
The length is certainly right for a Foz . We're naturally bigger in that department, and we hang lower! How loud is it compared to the Prodrive? I might be interested if the price is right...

That's huge, I know Genomes are nice but having it so far out to show off the emboss is taking it too far. I think I would have known even unwraping it that it aint gonna fit

well i got word back from the seller, and hes willing to refund the money, so its repackaged and will be returned to them tomorrow.

good to see some people on ebay still have some decency about them

i`ll still certainly be looking for another one, and this time i`ll stick with the size we all know and love
