Default BOUGHT A CDB, WILL IT FIT?

hi i just bought a closed deck block which was removed from a 95 impreza, are all engine blocks the same for classics or is there differences?

and can anyone tell me the difference between a sti inlet manifold and a wrx? pics of the 2 would be great if possible

i plan to forge the cdb then get some better heads than my wrx heads then possible fit a sti inlet manifold.

but am not sure what heads will fit this block and what inlet will fit the heads i choose etc etc.

and after all that i need it to still plug and play with my existing wiring loom

I'd work from what version wiring and inlet you have and go from there. Say you've a v4 car - the block is a straight swap, but you can only use v1-4 heads if you want a straight swap with the inlet manifold and wiring as well.

Have a look at my thread on Projects, it might help 'DIY Budget Rebuild'

Anything up to version 4 heads will fit this block without needing to change the inlet manifold.

You will need to keep your inlet manifold and wiring harness, as the version 3 inlet manifolds has alot of differences. Such as the throttle position sensor works in reverse reading no current when fully open.

adzer that would be the easiest way. There aint any gains to be had by going for an STI manifold.

but mine is a version 2 so could i not change the inlet?
not that i'm gonna waste money if it has no gain over the wrx inlet i'm just curious now

Your Version 2 Manifold will bolt onto any heads up to Version 4.

There really isn't any reason to switch to an STI manifold.

Take you CDB fit any heads up to version 4 keep your existing manifold loom etc job done.

You could fit it but it comes with it problems. Am early Sti v1 & v2 would fit. But its the same manifold you already have.

The v1 and 2 inlet side hardware is different from the v3/4, stuff like idle valve, coil position etc. It's is totally not worth the hassle of even thinking about changing your inlet manifold, absolutely pointless. If you want an STi manifold, just paint your WRX one red, and you have an STi manifold. In fact some of the early Sti manifolds weren't even painted red, they were identical to the WRX.

So:
1. Keep your manifold and paint it red if you want.
2. Fit any heads up to version 4 (MY98)
3. Use your CDB

if your happy with the price then its a good price (I sold a complete closed deck block with heads and ancilleries and spare heads for just over £100 btw )

sti2 heads from what I hyave read arent the greatest, best bet would be to find some v3 sti heads as I believe they offer a good aggressive cam profile and breath well

u could of got well more for your engine i would of thought, some one on here was trying to sell me just the 2 halfs of the casing for £200!!!!

v2 sti heads that are ported and polished delivered to my door for £220 i'd of thought that was a good price despite the fact there is better heads out there, i dont have deep pockets lol
