oil problem
since i bought my car there was an oil leak, i took the car to various garages and had rocker cover gaskets replaced etc, actually one of my rocker covers got worse, drivers side one so yesterday i went to the dealers bought new gasket, washers, half moons and loctite grey sealant spent £60 including new oil filter while i was there. anyways,,,,
i left it over night whilst it was cold to let the grey sealant set, hopefully this cures it!
i dropped a spanner down the bottom so took undertray off in search for the spanner and came across the below!!!
NOW the actual cause of the oil leak- theres a small bendy oil pipe on the passengers side right above the header,
whats this pipe called? mine is split and is causing oil to go everywhere.
help me out people, im on a mission to get my car fixed
thankyou

looks like rocker cover is ok now, jobs a goodun, had the car on the ramp and left running looked underneath and definitely that small oil pipe, its got a split, when the cars on the road and on boost it leaks all over the sump and header shield on drivers side causing smoke, no leaks from the rocker cover side at all.
fingers crossed thats one thing sorted
its all about the pipe now, i just need to know what its called ill try photo bucket.

That looks like the Modine link pipe - comes out of the water pump via that hose to the metal pipe, across the front of the engine to another short hose as in the picture and then to the Modine oil cooler.
If it is that pipe - it contains Coolant not oil.
Are you sure its not coming out of the timing cover above it ?

hmmm,,,, i wiped this pipe and i know it holds water as some dripped out, but everytime i take it on a drive the pipe gets covered in oil again, oil gets all over the bottom of the engine,
i left it running and looked at the pipe after wiping it and there were drips of oil coming from it!
im baffled now

Subaru dont run main oil pressure through a rubber hose - the only rubber hose which contains oil is the drain back hose from the turbo and that is not pressurised.
I can only think that the oil is coming from above the Modine hose :
Cam Shaft Seals,Front Cam cap, front crank seal etc.
If the hose is leaking, maybe is pumping coolant onto the headers and causing the smoke.

hi, i had the same problem i had oil dripping from this pipe,
i removed my cambelt cover as i found it was coming from behind that somewhere.
it turned out to be the oil pump leaking where it seals to the block.
it could also be one of the cam or the crank seal.

the thing is its not leaking at the front or through the timing belt cover at all!
its just from the above pipe area which then spreads all under the engine
