no boost

Question no boost

was driveing the other day and the boost was fine
took my wife to work and on the way back the boost just wouldnt work
this is my first turbo car so still learning have checkd all pipes and no splits and none loose so i had a feel at the tubo shaft and there was no play in the shaft and she span smoothly
there was no smoke no warning nothing it just stoped boosting
but the car still idles fine and drives like a 2L sport just no turbo
the boost gauge goes to just below zero
spoke to a mate he says could be boost celanoids/maf sensor/and plugs
is there a way of testing any of these or has anyone any good ideas
i have a 1996 sti jap import with a v8 bottom end it has a hks filter exeddy clutch slitfire plugs and leads and a deffi boost unit apexi turbo timer

i have recently fitted a alarm system could i have blown a fuse or something

usually i could figure thigs out for myself but as say this is my first turbo car and i feel iv hit a dead end

Does the boost gauge go in negative when ticking over??
If it doesn't you have a leak somewhere.
Also check the wastegate isn't stuck closed on the turbo.

i checkd the wastegate and the arm moves open and closed when i manually move it it doesnt seeem to be stuck
as for boost guage it ticks over at 0.8 as it allways did and when i accelerate it stops at 0.1 the boost use to start at 0 and only had the boost set to 1.1
so cant see me overboosting

Check the dump valve what ever type it has check its not broken and stuck open.
If the boost solenoid was broken I think you would still see some boost all be it reduced and controlled by the actuator.
If your turbo is spinning and the there is no leaks sounds like the waste gate is broken or stuck open. (Not closed as I said before )

hi thanks will check that now also been told it may be the tubo outlet wheel has broken offf so gunna take down pipe off too and have a wee look will let u know thanks again

all sorted took turbo off and there was shrapnell jammed in the blades so removed the shrapnell and rebuilt. turbo works fine now
where the shrapnell came from i dont know but gotta strip it all down again anyway as i didnt repace the gaskets and booted it too quick and blew them hahahaha.

shrapnell on which side??

I thought you said the turbo was spinning
