engine rebuild advice - poss 2.5?
As above,
Just a general enquirey really. Its always been at the back of my mind that one day i will need a rebuild (touch wood its a long time away )
Now what are my best options, on a bit of a budget but would like to build a reliable engine capable of handling 400-500 bhp .
I have thought about the 2.5 conversion, but im sure it would need other supporting mod's like forged pistons etc....
whats the ideal spec i would be looking for?
Cheers

IMHO for a road going Subaru. 400+ is MORE than enough! Big difference in cost between getting a reliable 400 and 500bhp
2.5 block, Forged rods and pistons coupled with MD321T, and usual cast of supporting mods, e.g. Simtek ECU, bigger injectors, FMIC, fuel pump, pressure reg, exhaust mods. Should give you a quick spooling and mid 400s and similar torque.
Budget 10k for a reliable 400+ engine IMHO
Then you'll need a better gearbox, clutch and suspension set up and better brakes. Budget 5-6k.
Power aint cheap!

Very true it is not cheap....
My first impression is that its going to cost around 2-3k to rebuild my sti block, when i could get a 2.5 short block for around 1000-1500 and assemble the rest myself....
