buzzing noise from engine/ engine wont start
hi there,
i've just changed my cambelt on a 96 impreza wrx jap import and im getting a buzzing noise coming from a unit near the air filter box. the engine turns over but wont start. anyone know what this is?
also when i turn the Ignition on the rev counter goes straight to 4000rpm, does anyone know why this is?
any help would be great.

Check your timing alignment again. How did you align the main crank shaft sprocket.
You should use the horizontal line from the sprocket and not the traingle marking. Have seen this before on a friends car who aligned it incorrect.

thanks for the reply,
the timing is all correct as i checked it about 4 times with the manual before refitting everything, theirs a straight line on the crankshaft sprocket which i lined up with a straight line on the oil pump housing, and lined up the inlet and exhaust cams with each other with the single and double lines.
any other ideas?

Make sure you've not knocked the crank or cam sensors. The crank sensor is directly above the mark for the timing. Have you read your ecu codes with the two black connectors under ther dash?

not checked that yet but i will do tomorrow,
new issue now i don't have the yellow check engine light or the red engine light on the dash come on at all?
im so baffled people i need some serious help i think!
any advise would be great

Is it still turning over? If the two black connectors are connected you should get the pulsing check engine light unless the battery is flat.
The buzzing is to do with the fuel pump i think.

i have double checked all connectors, checked all fuses, made sure all the earth's are ok and now i've even tried a new ecu and still now joy,
could it be my alarm/ immobiliser playing up?
or the ignition module?

are the green and black connectors disconnected now?
checked both fuse boxes?
alignments of belt should be like this
but your problem sounds like something wiring wise is damaged or not plugged in

the green and black connectors are disconnected now, both fuse boxes have been checked and that is how i have done the timing belt,
i have gone over everything at least 3 times, that includes doing the timing belt again just to make sure its not that but still no joy,
i have taken out and cleaned the cam and crank sensors.
every connection i would have undone has been checked and is connected.
if the ignition module was at fault would this cause the issues that im having with no cel light coming on and the engine turning over but not starting?

If the CEL isn't coming on it suggests that no power is getting to your ECU.
Does the fuel pump buzz for a second or so when you first turn the ignition on?

no i dont believe there is a buzz from the fuel pump.
i have checked the connections at the battery and they are all connected.
does the ecu take its feed from the battery direct? or does it go through a series of fuses and relays?
