Default Forged Engine build

Considering importing some rods and pistons from abroad as they work out about half the price. My concern is matching the rods with pistons etc and overbore?? Can anyone advise on what and what not to look for.

Keeping the 2ltr block

Looking at JE Pistons 92.00 or 92.50mm bore ???

and Scat pro 4340 rods is there anything else that should be on this shopping list? Bearings and piston rings perhaps?

What combinations work well for these two litres lumps, looking to get the parts and then take to a machining shop for the technical bit

Thanks folks

Provided your engine is still on a standard bore size, then 92.50mm pistons would be a safe bet as you will probably have bore wear/ovality/taper on your bores and it will have to be rebored oversize.Piston ring set normally comes with the piston set but you need to check with the supplyer.
The rod centers are the same on the 2.0/2.5l,so it comes down to choice of quality v price.
Race spec Big End and Main Bearings shells and a modded oil pump will help to safeguard the Forged bottom end.
As yours is a '99 spec engine, might be worth considering a Version 9 Nitrided crank also.

Thanks m8, so as long as the rods and pistons are for the EJ20 engine they should match up regardless of brand? Obviously there must be some acceptions to this!

Yes mine is a 99 but was considering grabbing a second hand block for this, what is the compression ratio that would be needed ? 7.5:1 or 8.2:1 i think its 7:5:1

I did this exact thing a couple of years ago.

I imported a set of Eagle Rods and Wiseco pistons for my 2.0L I went for a 93mm pistons and had the block bored and honed to suit the pistons.

The rod and piston combo cost me around £550 to my door.
I got mine from Import Performance Parts - Import Performance Engine & Racing Parts

Car was a UK Turbo 2000 compression was 8.35:1.

Made 360 bhp from a VF28 on Scooby clinics Rollers

Ahh great stuff, out of interest i have noticed that pistons for the EJ20 engines vary in their compression ratings. Not being an engine Jedi myself i wouldn't know what the exact compression rating that should or would be needed hence this post!!. I was looking at some Mahle pistons as well they have a good rep but the compression was lower than the others ?

Did you bother with big end bearings when you did yours?

Yes Mate, at the time I went and bought the RCMS WRC versions but they cost me nearly three times what ACL race bearings would of done.

On my latest build (Closed deck 2.5L Rotated GT30R setup) I am using the ACL Race series bearings. Excellent value for money and just about every big power tuner is using these.
