Default APEXI ECU - Is it good?

Hi,

I recently found out that my car has an aftermarket APEXI Power FC (I think it's called) ECU. It explains why my car did fairly well for an almost standard MY99 Impreza Turbo at 260bhp and 275 lbft with only a decat downpipe and a Boost controller.

I was just wondering what the point was in the previous owner having it fitted? Surely it could've been remapped via ECUTEK. The local garage said that the APEXI one is good but I don't know why?

Can anyone shed some light about this ECU?

thanks

Basicly in the correct hands it can be set to do wonderful things with your car. Do you have the Power Fc commander with it? That can tell you everything your engine is up to. Cool piece of kit.

No it didn't come with a commander unit :-( can they be bought from somewhere?

What is good about the APEXI ecu's, are they better than ECUTEK?

The mechanic said something about the potential to adjust 3 way boost on it but I don't know what he meant. Maybe it means 3 port boost solenoid. Hmm am confusing myself even more now

Ah I see thanks. So I guess it's a good ECU, but it needs the commander to do anything with it. My local mechanic has the commander for it luckily.

Does it require a 3port boost solenoid for it to be fitted, or is there any way I can find out if the car has one?

thanks
