Default any diff with v3 and v4 motor

garage cant sort out the engine on my v3 after a few rebuilds so they said ***** to it and have taken an engine out of a version 4 which they know is a very good engine, are they as good as one another or are there any differences between them, turbo, heads, etc.

The cams in version 3 heads are slightly wilder than the version 4, so I would keep your version 3 heads if possible.

The version 3 has a vf23 and version 4 has a vf24, the ecu for the v3 will be wrong for this setup and may cause issues at some point.

I would either get the ecu for the version 4 or get them to put the original turbo back on.

If I'm reading your other post right it looks like the v3 heads have taken sone damage, so if you are not rejecting the car, plus the engine they are putting in is a running V4 STI (complete long engine swap) then its probably a good solution.

Just make sure they don't use any stuff from the v3 engine like the oil pump / modine etc as judging by the other thread they don't know how to flush the engine propery during a rebuild.

there is nothing from that old v3 motor under the bonnet now, they simply took engine out of the v4 and dropped it straight in mine and bolted it all together, primed it up til oil light came off, water oil etc and fired up with o probs.
