53 Antenna
53 Anti-Quick Operation Mode
53 Communication Error (Time Over)
53 EGI Control Module EEPROM
53 IMM Circuit Failure (Except Antenna Circuit)
53 IMM Control Module EEPROM
53 Key Communication Failure
53 Reference Code Incompatibility
53 Use of Unregistered Key

Yeah. Got error 23 too. Disconnected the maf and it runs so I've ordered a new one. Just this code 53 comes up too.

i guess you have a UK turbo 2000 if so i would guess that the computer/ecu that operates the immobiliser/key recognition system is having a problem but have no idea why you are getting this fault code now.

Code 53 came up on mine also, but after disconnecting the battery the code disappeared.
It worried me when I looked up the code also, but there were no obvious signs of any faults when the car was running.

Yeah it's a UK Turbo 2000, wierd. I'll have to get someone to look for that one.

I have only come across code 53 once before and it was an immobiliser fault.
The ECU was reset and the fault never showed again.
