Question what does this light mean?

on the dash board there is a light which is a rectangle (landscape view) with 3 wavy line coming out of it, this is one a WRX 95, is it basically telling me "im about to give up the ghost?" or is it a dodgy sensor or something? how do i check for these "fault codes" if that is what it needs?

Thanks Guys

Sounds like the 'cat on fire' warning light, if you unplug it, it should go off.

it thinks that the cat is overheating.
You need to unplug the exhaust gas temp sensor which acts as a hot cat sensor

i would think unplugging the sensor would be fine as that is sending the reading to the dashboard light.

Or you could just replace the sensor.

Forums are for asking questions
The plug can be seperated from the loom (think it's a white, round plug near the airbox) but i would take it to a garage just to make sure you're taking apart the right thing.

Follow it from the cat to the plug, as myblackwrx said, to the area of the airbox/boost control solenoid and unplug it.

Is that light yellow? If so, I think it's the rear window defogger which has a switch on the right side of the dashboard.
