Default Steering Rack Question????

I have a 95 wrx. Can I drive without the pump? I know it'll be heavier, but is it still driveable?

NOT a good idea.
It's a power assisted rack so not as light as a non power rack would.

IMHO it would be dangerously heavy.

I'll put it this way, I just replaced the power steering pump on my MY93 because the old one sprung a horrible leak, and those two weeks without it were murder on my arms at low speeds. If you do some long distance commuting, the high speed turning is really not that bad, but simple things like backing out of the driveway or carpark, or rediculous. I got my pump off ebay though from some oem-carparts seller, had great service, quick, and helpful, just send him a pic of your old pump if you plan on replacing it

I've had two cars in the past that have thrown a PAS belt, at speed they are fine, at low speed the steering is very heavy, but if you learn to adapt the car will be far from undriveable, just make sure you keep rolling (at however low a speed) when tying to turn!

Thanks for you replies. Is there any other way to lose the pump, without making it to heavy? Or change the rack?

Electric pump?
Some saxo's had them.
You can mount themwherever you want. Just get some pipes made up.
I used one of a van. Worked a treat and I gained 2bhp. But that was back in my NA tuning days lol.
