Default TD04 - TD05

Hi all, can anyone tell me if a TD05 turbo is compatable with the fsame flange as the TD04 please?

I was thinking of upgrading to a TD05 and i'm hoping it's just a direct bolt on upgrade.

Thanks, Mark

Shows how much I know then! LOL!

Yes it is a saloon, LOL!

So what does the TD04 come on then, I assumed the TD05 only came on either newer models or STI models.

I'm really clutching at straws here, I've only been in the Scooby worls for about 3 months, i'm still clued up on VAG cars, sorry!

Thanks

Nice wheels also looks like you've got 4 pots on the front as well (they've got SUBARU embossed on them)

Thanks peeps.

Yeah they are 4 pots, Brembo's with 304mm discs and Hawk Performance Mitsubishi EVO pads and I have braided brake lines.

Wheels are 17" Compomotive's, they were gold but i'm not a big fan of gold so had them painted using the paint code from the car but without the ever so fine red metallic.

Thanks for the help as well, much appreciated.

95 uk saloon is definately a td05 is it fairly laggy? Td04's tend to make very good low down power with minimal lag whereas a Td05 on a early car will feel fairly lethargic untill a good 3.5k + revs are on board and only really take off when 4k is up.

How would you get more take off lower down the revs with the TD05? I too thought that i had a TD04 on my 95 wrx til last week when I took it all apart! Im planning for decat & up -pipe, with a remap? would that sort the lag?

@Tucker

This wont sort the lag completely.
But the turbo will spool up faster.

thats what im after really.. more power and quicker spool. What if I got for a Vf35...does anyone know if it will fit on the same housing? and also....the penny waste on the cat side of the housing has a bit of play and a mate has told me it wont hold boost as well...is this right and will I need a new one?

I actually believe many people would be happier with a smaller turbo. For normal onroad conditions a smaller turbo will give you more of a grin factor. I changed from a TD05 to a VF11 and I'm so happy with the difference. What makes a car fun for me is the fact that I can step on the gas at almost any rpm and overtake quickly.

It starts producing boost at 2k, by 3k I've already got full boost. Ok, the boost drops off rather sharply after 5k but believe me the car is more fun. The biggest I can have on a road car right now is maybe a TD04.

Oh, and did I mention that I have seen a 20% improvement in mileage with the smaller turbo? This is without any mapping.
