Default tdo5??

have just got hold of a tdo5 16g turbo have heard and seen it working on a m reg classic shape with no faults,as the engine has been removed from the car to be fitted in a second car i have found that there is alot of in and out movement when i grab the compresser main shaft that passes through the turbo housing, theres no up and down movement, anyone else had anything like this before as i am thinking of sticking it back on.

that is the oposite to what I believe is ok, a little up and down is ok as the oil pressure takes this up but in and out is play in the thrust bearings so would have thought best to have it checked out, this is from my experience with garrett T series turbos though so maybe different

I have seen a couple of TD05 turbos both of which were working fine and both of which had a bit of in and out play and no up and down play. IMO it's nothing to be worried about.

I have a vague recollection of reading somewhere that the TD05 thrust bearing is only designed to handle thrust from the exhaust side, which would make it perfectly ok for the wheel to have play towards the exhaust side since it's not expecting loads from there.
