Default Car stuttering under acceleration

Hi I'm new to the world of Subaru's and to this site and have so far had
more than my fare share of problems with my 96 Impreza but I don't intend to be beaten by it although my wallet is quite close to throwing in the towel.

My latest problem is that if you accelerate hard the car will stutter for a
few seconds then accelerate, its like it loses power then it comes back and
the car jolts quite severely when this happen if you drive it normally and
let it accelerate gradually its fine its just if you put your foot down
hard to overtake etc has anyone else had this problem or even know what
maybe causing it any help most welcome.

Thanks in advance

James

Sorry to be the one to say it, but do a search mate - there are literally hundreds of threads on here with the same thing.
And 90% of people will suggest it's your MAF I expect!

I've got the same problem m8 lol, but I've been told on numerous occasions that it may be your coil packs, course mine's a bit older(1993 wrx) so I think mine may be more prone to it than yours, but if you can reach them, they're on the sides of the motor, one 10mm bolt holding them in, just pop them out, remove the little rubber boot on it, and see if you have any cracks in the hard plastic around the tip

First of all I'd ask what was last set of mods? When was she last running well?

Norm list I'd check (most this you can do on your own m8y - I have).

Check plugs for condition and colour (if decent colour and age, gap and refit).
Check fuel filter, age and condition.
Check all manifold pipes make sure nothing split or disconnected, amazing what the odd little hose can do to performance (I know, been there).

Then maybe get garage run ECU diagnostics on her or even better (although depends on cost) a mapper as they can see car running along and tell what's changing at ruff point.

Can still be coil packs but could also be slightly faulty exhaust gas sensors, even split hoses, list is endless.
