Default Old Scooby won't start?

Hello,
The "check engine" light fails to go out after switching the ignition on.
It will not even attempt to turn the engine over.
If I connect the positive from the battery to the starter solenoid it starts, and runs just fine....."check engine" light stays on.
Anyone?
Thanks,
Bling.

From what you say it sounds like the starter is not getting the GO signal from the ignition switch? Or it is and the solonoid is not switching. Really need to check with a multi metre to see if the starter is getting a 12volt feed when the ignition is turned to the start position. If it is then suspect starter soloniod. If its not then could be alarm, ignition switch, fuse etc

Thanks for the replies.

error codes? All I'm getting is is 'check engine'.

No 12volts at the solenoid.
The fuses I've found are all good.
Seems I've lost the the indicators also....they flash okay when I set the alarm?

I guess I'll have to try follow some wires back...

Bling.
