Default weak engine????

Here in Portugal, lot's of people have the idea that subarus have weak engines, stories that they all break about 50k or 60k miles ( know some that broke ).
I think poor maintenance, bad tuning and lot's of abuse are the main causes to all those damaged engines, but people continue to insist it's a weak engine.
What do you guys think?

most common are spun bearings due to a lack of maintenance and regular oil and filter replacements

Complete BS basically!

If looked after properly they are strong engines and will readily accept quite significant hikes in power

my previous classic I sold it with 50k and my bugeye has 50k.
never had problems with the classic and with the bugeye everything is ok ( knock wood ).
my main problem is maintenance, here in Portugal there are only a few good specialists, they are all far from me and I think I can get cheaper prices if I buy in the UK.
now I have to find someone to change the cam belt kit and other stuff.
