Default Engine Check Flashing

Hi all,

I have a 95 wrx with an Apexi ECU and the engine check light is flashing. The knock on the commander is maxing at 91.

When I started her up in the morning the engine check light flash's. But, doesn't flash on idle. Just touch the accelerater and the light flash's.

Any help would be appreicated

Chris

that's not good hence why the CEL is flashing.
Speak to a mapper of the Apexi (Simon aka jollygreenmonster is very helpful)

Hate to say it Chris, but that sounds like the dreaded bottom end. Can you hear a knocking noise when you blip the throttle? When mine went it sounded perfectly normal on idle, just knocked when you revved it.

Maybe also, could be the knock sensor... lets hope so, cheaper to fix than the above.

Well it's not the bottom end. There is a ticking noise above number 4 piston now and again. So, it's either injector or valve.

Any advice?

sounds like tappet noise maybe.. do you know if it has the standard hydraulic tappetted heads of if they have changed.. maybe a valve clearance issue or sticking tappet.

difficult to be more sure from description, take it somewhere via trailer to get check etc

They are standard hydraulic valves. I did take it to a subaru garage but didn't know how to ready the fault code on the Apexi with his code reader. The only I've notice on the commander is the FPC light is lit when the engine is running. Is this normal?
