Hks SSqv loudness question
Hi all.
Right, Ive got a Hks SSQ dump valve on My98 with a purple insert and its very loud.
Dumps slightly at low revs(3k), then really lets off nice at high revs(5k).
Now, on my Dads MY02 Sti PPP, he has also gota Hks SSQ with again a purple insert, but his does release like mine.
You have to really gun it to even just get the high pitched valve to release. Were talking 5-6k, but it gives a tiny chirp and thats it.
Has anyone got any idea's why It does this?
We tried his on mine and it was fine if I remember.
We have also adjusted the screw at the back, and has made no difference.
Is there a difference in vacuum between the classic and newage?
cheers
Tony

I've got a HKS SSQ too, and mine when it was iftted to the stardard intercooler was very quite at low revs.
Then I changed to a FMIC and the sounded changed , but still was very quiet at low revs.
I've recently had the SSQ mounting plate welded into the pipework, getting rid of the silcon pipework.
This has made a change to the sound again, now its a more forceful dump and lounder at low revs.
I think the position of the valve and the method of attachment has alot to do with the pitch of the dump, the volume and the revs at which to achieve a audiable dump.
