Default Speedo problem urgent!

Hi Guys, i have a problem with my speedo and i am bringing the car to the uk next week so i need to fix it urgently!

What it is is the speedo works up untill about 40mph but when i go above 40 the speedo drops to zero and stays there untill i slow down again........

I have changed the clocks already but it still does exactly the same thing.....

Oh and when it reads below 40mph it is not very accurate, it waves about a bit.........

And the car is a 1996 classic....

Thanks!

As above, the speedo cable on the classic is in two parts, lower and upper. Try these Import Car Parts - Japanese car parts for Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Mitsubishi and more If parts not listed give them a call, they have loads of stuff on the shelf and are awesome. I've used them loads of times, spot on next day delivery.

Ah just seen above comment....sender perhaps?

How do i check that?

Is the speedo head on the sender or the speedo itself?

Where can i find the sender?

Your sender unit is screwed into the gearbox casing on the right hand side almost halfway back. It is the only sensor on that side of the box.

If you have already tried a new speedo assay then yes it logical that the sender unit is faulty, but you would be better off trying to find a second hand one, as they are about £270.00 new.
