Default how much to fit a front mount intercooler?

anybody with a FMIC how much did you pay to have it fitted? im looking at an autobahn88 one which says some cutting is required, do they all need cutting and is it something that can be done diy?

if it can be done DIY then how difficult is it?

if i will need to get it professionally fitted how much would that be?

any advice welcome

cheers

It can be done in about a weekend on your own... It's a bit of a pain in the ****, but it's doable

Expect to pay about 6-8hours labour for professional fit IMO

I did mine on my own last weekend and it took me eight hours, its not to bad , a few bits need cutting here and there but it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. my fmic was off a 99 so i had to make it fit my 96 . there was a few scratch youre head moments but you have to be brave and get cutting! theres a very useful link on here somewhere. try google (subaru fmic fitting guide) and it mite bring it up. good luck!

In my book it's a DIY job if only because it's one of those open ended kind of things that could end up being 1-2 days work at a garage that hasn't done one before. It's no slower doing it yourself.

Completely agree.

I fitted a HYBRID to MY94 and it was a DIY job with trial and error. If I was asked to do it again then I could probably do it in half the time. For a flush fitting and perfectly trimmed job then take your time and have all the required tools at hand. I used an angle grinder\air saw\dremmel to accurately trim bodywork and bumpers. Not being fussy of course

If you don't fancy doing it yourself then phone the sccoby specialists that should have done them before and get a quote.

Depends what make. Hybrids are relatively easy. I was charged 5 hours labour IIRC. When commenting on the intercooler, the mechanic said that not all were that nicely made and fitted as well. He claimed that had I asked him to install the autobahn one, the labour charge would have been much higher as they wouldn't have been able to do it properly in a day!!

AET in W yorkshire quoted me £200+, basic fitting but because mines a hybrid, have had to source a DV take off hose to fit my hks chav valve, and all but 2 clamps provided with the kitted didnt fit so iv had to source some more measure them all up myself etc - ******* terrible imo - but the rest of its spot on quality wise

also did it myself, wish i never started to be honest, i wont do it again - wish id have taken it to AET
