For the past few days my 1995 impreza wrx seems to have developed a strange rattle/grinding noise, I've just been out under the car and narrowed it down to inside the timing belt cover at the front in the middle at the bottom, there seems to be some kind of water/oil pump there, i think this is whats making the rattling/grinding noise, could it be the water pump bearings have gone or something like that in that area? any help would be great.

Could be the water pump bearings,one of the Timing belt idlers or the front pulley loose.
You will have to remove the 3 outer timing covers to get a better idea and sooner rather than later Dan.
