Default idle

hi all,
got a prob with my my 98terzo, have noticed that tick over is a bit erratic it will go to almost stall and then flick up to just over a 1000rpm and continue doing this like i am bliping the throttle, now i then noticed my exhaust blowing at back of turbo, some clown b4 i had car had changed exhaust and looks like they broke bolts/studs on back of turbo and never sorted it just bolted back up with what they could, now it is blowing i have sorted a new turbo which is another td04 so will just be a straight swop over rather than remove and get bolts/studs drilled out, do you think this will cause the idle problem or is it something else, have had a look at idle contol valve by removing top part and all looks fairly clean and have cleaned maf with electrical contact spray, only other thing which i think may cause problem is lambda sensor but as this is just past the blow on my downpipe would leak cause it to misread??

hope i have made my situation clear

cheers

damian.

Sounds like it could be MAF related. Start up and then remove the MAF's electrical plug. If it stalls then the MAF is fine, if it carries on running then the MAF's gone. Replace asap as this can lead to bigger problems.

tried that removing plug from maf but engine cuts straight out, could it be blowing issue causing loss of back pressure?
