Fitted oil pressure sender today for a defi gauge (not got around to fitting actual gauge yet due to it pi55ing it down.. ) using an LMA remote fitting kit.

The only problem is I'm getting a very slight oil seep from defi sender to LMA adaptor. Used a small amount of PTFE tape (maybe 2-3 wraps) and didn't overtighten. I therefore tightened it ~1/4 turn more, and whilst it improved it's not cured it..

So, I'm going to remove and try resealing, but do I use more PTFE tape or some Loctite thread locking (red stuff)..?

Supposed to be going to sister-in-laws tomorrow (150 mile round trip) and I'm now bricking it about this slight seep developing..!

BTW the other 4 joins I've done (oem sender/remote adaptor/braid) are nice and dry..

 

More tape wound the right way IYSWIM.

I'd be interested too as i'm putting my engine back together with a new lma sender and may experience the same thing.

Mine did the same, few wraps of ptf tape cure it.

Try a bit more, i do agree though the metal of these kits is cheap makes u scared to tighten them up.

 

I didn't use any ptfe at all and haven't got an oil leak.

In fact, I thought NPT threads were supposed to not need any ptfe as the two threads deform and form a perfect seal that way?

Oh, and isn't the defi a non NPT threaded sensor? I seem to recall reading something about needing an adaptor to make a defi into an 1/8 npt?

 

Right, now sorted..

Basically, as Henrick says, Defi use 1/8PT NOT NPT on their metric gauges, which I found out when I fitted oil temp last year..

Note PT is the same as BSPT, which you're more likely to come across.

Most gauge manufacturers use NPT, but Defi and probably any other Japanese Co use PT/BSPT. In fact, the OEM oil pressure sender is PT/BSPT, so if you're fitting a Defi sender in the OEM position it will seal no problem. The problem arises when you need an adaptor.

If you have Defi gauges and need an LMA adaptor you should order the usual range number, but suffix with a 'B' (for BSPT/PT). Example: LMA067B and
LMA095/1/300B..

I found this out after talking with a very helpful guy at LMA, who informed me about the differences..

Sometimes you can get away with an 1/8PT sender sealing in an 1/8NPT adaptor other times you won't. So to be sure, order the correct adaptor, which is how I corrected the leak that I had in the OP..

Final point, iirc defi imperial gauges come with NPT senders so the standard LMA adaptors are fine.

I'd suggest those who've fitted metric defi gauges with LMA adaptors (espesially oil pressure remote kit) to double check the seals for seepage..
