Default MY06 2.5 wrx Fuel Lab Fuel Pressure Regulator Fitting

Right, basically we know how to take the original out of the system and bypass it with the connecter provided, and how to reroute the vacuum (which goes onto the top of the fpr). What we need to find out is which pipe is the inlet (which goes into the side of the fpr) and which is the return (which connects to the bottom of the fpr). I think the return is the pipe which comes from the lower of the three solid metal pipe feeds from the n/s of the inlet manifold, but which is the inlet?
Any labelling of the following diagram would be greatly appreciated.

Is that your fuel pressure regulator?

I'd have thought it would be on the fuel rail like the earlier newage cars??

You can just make out the fuel rail adaptor in blue.

On mine (2002 STI) the fpr is on the front of the driver's side fuel rail, yours may be different, a short rubber hose leads up to the front leg of the inlet manifold.
Also mine has a large fuel filter on the supply pipe and a black "mushroom" on the return.... Yours has two "mushrooms" so I'm lost !
Third pipe is the PCV line back to the fuel tank.
My fuelab (two port) is going into the return pipe to the fuel tank, when my fuel rails finally arrive....

Follow the three pipes...
One goes to the nearside fuel rail.
One goes to NEAR the std fpr... emission control bollocks....
One goes to the fpr itself.

Cheers for the replies fellas. The standard fpr is in the same place as yours are, we can understand how to remove/ bypass that with the part supplied. What we are after is to find out which of the pipes pictured (on the passenger side by the intercooler) is which, ie which do we tap into for the fuel supply and which do we tap into for the fuel return to tank. We know where they go on the new fpr but don't know which is which on the car.

I dont follow what you are asking. Is there a reason why you want to tap into the pipes at the fuel filter?

You shouldn't need to touch thoses pipes. You'll remove the origanal FPR and replace it with a fuel rail adaptor, link from the fuel rail adaptor to the pressure side of the AFPR. Now the return side of the AFPR will link to the origanal return pipe just down infront of the inlet manifold. The vaci pipe just gets extended as you will already know.

I cant lebal your fuel lines on the above pici as I cant see a fuel filter on there and they could be different to my MY02STi

Sorry Nick i some how managed to fry my own head! Right lets start again. I know the inlet comes from the fuel rail adapter and goes to the side of the reg and i know how to sort the vacuum out. I also know the return on the fpr is on the bottom, all i need to know is which pipe on the car is the return to the tank, so i can connect it to the bottom of the fpr. Sorry if i'm making this hard work.
Taylor.

depending on where you mount the new fpr, you can use the original return, can't you? As in, the metal hard pipe that the standard FPR connects immediately to (by the end of the drivers side fuel rail)

It looks a bit tight, I agree, but it should be possible to do this, I would have thought.

Sounds like an option. the new FPR is being mounted by the drivers side wing so its in the right area.

What car is it your fitting it to, a classic with a 2.5 build?

I'm slightly confused now

Yes, if you fitting the AFPR to the drivers inner wing then I'd use the origanal return the standard FPR used

It looks like an 06> car. The fuel filter is now installed on the fuel pump assembly ( good way of bumping up service costs).

If the original FPR is removed, its return pipe it is just to its side. Connect onto this for the new FPR return.

Nick
Does this mean the whole fuel pump assy has to be removed (rear seat out etc) just to changed filter..?

Oh yes.
There still appears to be room for one under the bonnet, so I don't understand why it was moved.
US STis have always had them with the pump, so I guess it cheapens car assembly perhaps, but at a cost to the owner.

I think first time round I'd be removing the in tank filter and replacing it with an under bonnet jobby. It would be out of warranty by then

You don't strictly *need* to remove the rear seats do you? At least on the 03 it's possible to get to all the screws with a stubby screw driver, I would have thought.

Rear seat out is a comparably huge job (IMO)

You may be able to get the cover off and all the nuts off the pumps assembly but I'd be interested to see somebody remove the pump assembly from the tank with the seats still in lol.
