Default Tuning Question

Hiya guys

Iv currently got a 2001 Impreza WRX UK300 (33,000 miles on clock) which iv got booked in to be mapped on the 22nd at Malcom Racing as his well recomended.

It already has fitted:

Full Miltek Exhaust
Kamakazi High Flow Cat Down Pipe
Fujisu Induction Kit with Matching Heat sheild
GFB Stealth Adjustable Dump Valve

And getting fitted before mapping:

Virtualy new IHI VF35
STI Pink 565 Pink Injectors
HKS Uppipe
Ported Headers
Uprated Fuel Pump
Lower Heat Point plugs (proberly wrong termnology )
Prodrive 3 Port Boost Selinoid
And a Full Service to go with it.

Now, im not quiet sure what power my cars going to achive, but alot of my mates are taking the **** and saying my engin is made out of chocolate and going to go bang. Now for the silly questions

First of all, what power is my car likely to achive and will my engin need making stronger or will be okay at this level.

To make an engine stronger, is it just the Pistons and Con Rods which need changing or do other parts need changing as well.

If I was to get the pistons and rods done after the map, would it need mapping again to suit changing them over and lastly, to do the rods and pistons, is this a big job labour wise?

Sorry if these questions sound a bit stupid, but it would be much appreciated if some of you tunning gurus could shed some light on the subject for me

Cheers

You sould be fine at this power level and will not need to uprate the internals.

You should achieve between 320-340bhp with similar lbft.

What year are the injectors from? The normal STI pinkies I've seen have been 505cc - not that it will make a difference as even the 505's can flow enough fuel for a vf34.

Changing internals will be very expensive (well, compared to leaving it ). I haven't done it, but I'd be surprised if you'd get a lot of change from 2000 for rods + pistons. I'm still on standard internals with 350bhp, and if things let go, I'm planning on dropping a 2.5 lump in for about 1500 quid (plus labour).

One thing I can't see on your list is an intercooler. Your WRX intercooler wont be brilliant at that kind of power level, so consider upgrading this to a new age STI intercooler (around 250 quid used with the undertray). This is both for safety and increased performance, so well worth doing (ask your mapper, though).

Was thinkning about a STI intercooler, but mines got a UK300 intercooler which is stamped on it which I thought was the same as an STI one? I could be wrong though

Another question, When the mechanic fits the Pink Injectors, will the car be okay to drive to the mappers (10 mile) or will they have to be fitted at the mappers?

Cheers fellas

would advise not to drive it without the correct map, not worth the risk

I was in a similar predicament recently; upgrade of 440s to 550s. When I enquired with Bob whether I would be ill-advised to drive the car to him on the original map with the new injectors, here is the response I got.

no the car would be fine driven off boost, the ecu has a plus/minus 25% short term fuel trim and a plus/minus 15% long term trim in addition so plenty of head room, if you go on boost it will choke up though.

So, just keep it off boost!

My car is a classic rather than a new age, so it might be a good idea to check with your mapper to make sure it's the same deal. Can't see why not, a new age ECU is more sophisticated than a classic ECU.

That's roughly what bob told me as well on a new age, so it should be fine. Keep it off boost, as said (which you should do anyway, as you've got new mods on there)
