Can anyone out there shed some light onto this........

If my front seat passenger winds their window down, then back up again, I get a tremendous amount of wind noise from it (appears to come from near to the wing mirror), which can only be cured by opening and closing the door to reseal it.

I seem to remember seeing that someone else had a problem like this. Did it ever get cured?

Its not a great problem for me at the moment, but I can see it being a problem as the warmer weather comes.

I've checked all the seals, and they seem ok.

Thumbs up

you can adjust how the window sits by getting behind the door panel and adjusting the window in the runners /brackets

Don't know how to fix it but the problem is when you roll the window up the seal is partially lifted which causes the whistle. I would love to know if there is a fix. My car (99) has done it since new!

if you smear some silicon grease or the likes to the rubber seal it will help the glass to slide over the seal without lifting it.
it's what a lot of garages do to stop squeaks/creaks with rubbers, plastics, etc

Silicon grease? Any recommendations as to where to get some, and what particular make / costs?

It may also be because the window alignment is out. You shuld hear the wind noise I get sometimes!

At the next service they are going to have a look at it for me, thankfully under warrenty.

It is a 'feature' common with frameless windows as the glass isn't fixed into a groove it is free to shift and there for not make the best seal possible.

It was recommended to me, not to close the door by pushing on the glass as this can help amplify the issue.

Question

its weird - its fine if the door is closed normally, just becomes evident when the window is wound down then back up again when the door is shut.

silicon grease can be bought from halfords, b+q, etc

it can be bought in spray (spray some onto a cloth then wipe onto rubber)

I think this may be due to the control buttons...Happens on my MY99 if passenger powers window down then up later I have to operate button at my side to completely close the gap !
Doesn't make bad wind noise but just noticeable. Maybe worthwhile asking dealer to take a look, assuming its still under warranty like mine

Wink

as you may know, i taped my doors and bonnet up to try the fuel consumption difference. i dont suggest you go to these lengths, but why not just tape up by the mirror area?

fww

p.s. i used parcel tape, but you can get a tape which is called insulation tape from petrol stations or woolworths. regards. fww

I had the same problem after having a new passenger window fitted by autoglass (some toerag smashed it to nick my training bag).
In the end my local subaru garage refitted the window and reset the torque settings on the window motors and that sorted it.
