ECU CHIP???
I have a 1995 Sti V2 Impreza
Can anyone tell me if a chip off a 1996 Sti, will be suitable for my 1995.
Apparently the chip plugs into the spare socket in your ecu and remaps the fueling, ignition, boost, speed limiter and allows the use of superunleaded without octane booster.it raises boost to 1.1 bar and remaps everything to suit. A guy called .scott at polar performance helped develope these chips.
Cheers all
Neil

Here we go again.!!
Some chips are better than others, you get what you pay for. Don't be put off by the 'All chips will kill you' clan. Top tuners probably don't use them because they want to fine tune each component or upgrade and they wouldn't be a tuner if they just plugged in a chip would they!
For the road, some of the chips on the market are great. But if you are racing around a track all day then you will want to look at something different.
Bloody mapping snobbery!

Has your ECU already got the spare socket fitted?
Get in contact with Scott, he's on here or at PolarPerformance.co.uk
Bought one from him last year and he was great helping me with the socket and fitting, and it is working fine

y is it snobery?
i know several tuning companies who fit generic maps to most cars, they can map 20-30 evo's in a day if they want to. But when it comes to scoobs they wont do it, they custom map each one. i've seen identicle maps run on same spec cars and run different results and in some cases dangerous fueling.
you pays your money you takes your risk, but i stand by the comment top tuners wont do it.
financialy it makes more sence to use generic maps but they don't, costs couple of grand max to make a good one, then £200 pr car, do 50 cars and you've made a fortune. there isn't a huge proffit to be made in custom mapping unlike generic

To the OP what do you want to do to your car?
A simple power hike or more mods (bigger turbo, fmic, etc)?
The modding bug on these cars is quite hard to resist so a standalone chip will be of no use to you as it's limited whereas a fully remappable solution gives you a lot more scope of further mods.
i was going down the 'more power' route but have decided to go down the 'improve the handling' route to get the most out of the power i have at the moment.

There are good number of people who use these Polar Performance chips. I bought one second hand and have had no problems at all, very happy in fact. I did however, do a fair bit of research on here first.
Beware of copies from Ebay, some may be fine, others are blatantly wrong. Do some research and then ask lots of questions.
I fitted mine to a MY95 wrx that had the Z4 ECU fitted as standard, which is deemed pretty good as early ECU's go. I still noticed subtle differences in driving, fuel economy and top end power.
As a cheaper method of ecu upgrade prior to all out ECU mapping, I'm pretty pleased with this. The chips map was set up for a basic exhaust and intake mod, and is also set up for specific models of impreza.
