Fitting a Dawes to stop overboosting?!
Hi, I have an MY93 wrx with chip and full de-cat system... I want to change to an STi intercooler with samco hoses (which when fitted caused me overboosting) and then port and polish the OE headers (which i think will cause overboost too) so would it be safe to fit a dawes and limit the boost to what the chip is set too?
I have been told that the dawes will give a better, smoother boost curve anyway? I know I should have a re-map/ecu to be 100% safe but I dont have the money and am already monitoring all the vitals to be safe.
will the dawes allow me to fit the above and still be safe(ish)?
Any advice please!
Thanks,
Gaz

Hi, could be wrong, but a dawes won't drop your boost level, only stop the wastegate opening early, allowing your max boost to come in sooner.
Sounds like you need a fuel cut defender or plug in chip. Im sure someone will correct me!

yeah you can use a DD to drop the boost. If you fit it between the turbo outlet nipple and the wastegate actuator then open the DD fully you will run at the actuator pressure, approx 0.5 bar, then slowly wind in the DD until you reach the desired boost level Hth
ps you cant remap your ecu as such, esl board would be the way to go Products
