Car holding revs between gears
hi guys.
my car is messing around a bit, when driving, about 75% of the time when changing gear it holds the revs at about 2,500rpm also it might not be the same problem but it does stutter sometimes on pull off and a couple of times when starting it usaly takes around 1-2 seconds but occasionally it will
take 4-5 seconds.
thanks David

i dont know if its the same on these cars but i had the same problem on my vectra..
On my vectra it was a combination of a sticky throttle body and lots of crap. Sometimes they get really guncked up with crap.. and occasionally need cleaning.. Especially a little breather hole founf at the top of the Throttle Body.
As i said i dont know if it is the same on these models..
I cleaned the Throttle body, changed the idle control valve, sprayed tons of Carb cleaner around the area and everything seemed to be ok.
Possibly the same for you guys

It has never happened to me before on either of my Impreza's.
Generally happens between 1st and 2nd gears and the revs hold for about 15 seconds at 2000rpm - 3000rpm, like the trottle is stuck open.
I'll try cleaning the throttle body and ICV this weekend and see if it makes a difference.
Also checked the dreaded MAF and the car kept running, then checked again and it cut out. Then reset the ECU and the car still kept running when the MAF was unplugged!!!!!!

Sounds like ICV is sticking, quite common on older cars/higher mileage etc. You need to remove the ICV, clean with brake cleaner or carb cleaner & a cotton bud. Make sure you buy a new ICV gasket as it will expand when you remove it and you might not be able to get it back in. Only a few quid IIRC. You'll probably need to tweak the idle after re-assembly though. Easy to do and well worth it.... driving with a 2k idle is a pain
