Default Error code 23 and hunting idle

Hi I have just started my engine from cold and am getting a error code 23 and the idle is hunting between about 800-1100. Guessing these may be linked. Any ideas?

Elaborating from the paragraph above.

The engine from a 93 jdm WRX is not installed in a Subaru but a kit/replica I am building. It is the first time I have started it today, so am expecting to get codes to debug. As regards the engine itself is stock bar a Pipercross cone filter, 3" decatted downpipe (no silencer on it whilst I intially check it runs), and aftermarket intercooler to fit in the available space.

Hi.. 23 is mass air flow sensor, which could well explain a bad idle.
Interesting car you have there! I'd love to see some more pictures of it.
We have been working with the Murtaya, which uses the full Scooby drivetrain, and we're well aware of the potential of that engine in such a light car.

Cheers guys, got the service manuals and wiring diagrams and was OK with the fault 23 being the MAF.
Took a brief check and could see the +12v getting to the MAF then the hailstorm came in and I put the car back in it's home for the night.
Tommorow need to check the wiring from the MAF to ECU, and see what happens if I unplug the MAF.
Is there anything else that will also cause the MAF to give a 23 code.

On an aside to this would I expect to see all fault codes in sequence. E.G could I see pulses to say indicate error 23, and pulses to indicate say a 24 as well. Or do I only get to see the next error code after the first is fixed?

I used to wire and test industrial processing equipment so am ok with the wiring testing etc. Useful to know where to look for the problems though
