v5 if it has the small grille and v6 if it has the big bottom lip. 98 is the changeover year as far as i know!!

Mine is a 97 on a P plate & its a version 3 STI if its an S plate I would say v4
But i may be wrong.

Its either a v4 or v5. But ver 5 is only after sept 98. If the front bumper has 2 slots under the indicators its a V4. If it only has 1 with orange wedges in (they may be sprayed) its a V5. V5 has higher rear spoiler. Only real way to check is by the model code.

Check the VIN plate on the passenger's side front suspension turret... You'll see the 'Applied Model' code begin with 'GC8...' immediately followed by either '...E' or '..F'. E = version 4; F = version 5. (don't confuse the Applied Model code with the Chassis code, which is 'GC8 - xxxxxx').

If you post the full 7-digit code up, I'll tell you precisely what your STi model is (if you don't already know, of course)...

mines a 98 v4 with the coil pack in the middle. v5 is at the side. hope that helps
