ok thanx, any ideas if its the correct turbo fitted, been told it could be either td04 or a vf series on that year car.
Subject to it being the correct engine fitted whats a safe power figure i could aim for?

Hi I think your car should have a VF24 on it.

I would contact a reputable tuner ask there opinion. Have you checked that it is an STI engine running the STI ECU etc?
Think the VF23 was on the V3 STI like mine, Don’t quote me on this but I have read somewhere the VF23 can produce a little more power than the VF24 but the 24 spools up quicker producing less lag.

tbh if your gonna chnage the turbo then look for a vf34 or vf35.

or are the 23/24 different entry?

dont think you would be able to tell the difference between an sti and wrx engine externally, think you would be looking at internal examination.

It sounds unfortunately like the previous owner may have blown his sti engine and then just got a complete wrx replacement, swapped it over and then sold it, I hope not though.

If you check the ecu, it will tell us what management it is using (sti / wrx)

It wont have been a tdo4 on a sti, more likely a vf as mentioned

ok what am i looking for on the ecu?

the car was bought from a dealer who had took it in as a p/ex, who knows nothing about scoobs,

some hoses + a sticker under the bonnet from api engines i beleive might have carried out the work, have rang them about it and been told they cant tell me any thing due to the data protection act.

Data protection act??
What has that got to do with telling people what work has been done on a particular car?? Nothing to do with individuals data and I can’t see why they would refuse. Most dealers tell you service history etc

to be honest, I got an api sticker when I had some hoses from them so not really a telltale sign.

The ecu generally have a number on them. By giving this number we could at least see what management it is running.

Out of interest what does your car rev to?

not sure what it revs to, only took it to about 6500rpm then seems to struggle poss because of the turbo, my old wrx felt like a beast compared to this one.
