Default Rattle Noise at cold start

Hi Everyone

Owned my Suburu Impreza WRX STI Prodrive UK Spec for 8 months, just over 500 miles i changed the engine oil (Semi Synthetic as reccomended) with oil filter.

Only now i heard rattling noise when its cold? its an 2002 Bugeye done 37k only.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

So the noise wasn't there b4 the oil change and does the noise go away when the car is warmed up?

Mine is a 02sti and it rattles when its cold, I reckon its piston slap from the forged pistons. Only does it for a minute or 2 but sounds horrible

Yes it wasn't there b4 the oil change (500 miles done on this oil) The noise i wouldn't say goes away complete after warming up but reduces 90% say!

Any Suggestions anyone?

from reading alot of posts about what oil to use, it sounds like you might have wrong oil maybe to thin? knocking sounds have been associated with oil changes a few times i believe!

I use a 10w 60 castrol edge fully synthetic have a bit of noise on cold startup but once warm it goes away i would recommend getting a thicker oil as 5w 30 may be a bit thin

use miller 10 60 CFS fully synthetic 3 ester
anything with a lower number than 10 is to thin

piston slap was only a rer issue with 1997 cars, i'd be suprised if it's that on yours................

Not really. The '01-'02 cars suffer too. My previous '02 wrx had it. It happend for 2-5 mins when cold then completely gone. Not sure if you have piston slap though, as you said is not completely gone when warm.
