weird you should say that peter. I had mine done yesterday and also in third. I thought the five speeds should be done in 4th and the 6 speeds in 5th to get the best 1:1 ratio

Both times my STi has been on the rollers at Power Engineering, the run has been in 5th If in too low a gear, it may not be loaded enough to make full boost? Would 6th possibly overspeed the rollers? My SECS told me that max. boost was 19psi although I'd seen over 21psi on the road. Max. speed was 143mph

thanks for the replys guys
but we seem to be no nearer a definate answer
i know the reason is due to ratios of 1:1
but which gear is this?

i thought it was down to gear ratios
if you look at the spec pages
06 sti in 4th is 1.1 ish
06 wrx in 3rd is 0.97 ish
my96 ra in 5th is 0.96 ish
this to me is the gear they should be run in

I had my scooby r/r'd at triton motorsport and it was done in 3rd they said it was because that is the power gear but i do make more boost in 4th 1.1 bar on the road due to the chip i have fitted but only made 0.94 in 3rd on the rollers.

will depends on the RR rather than the car, the figures are only accertained by calculation, which can be different from RR to RR (as in make), due to how they are manufactured.
as said dyno dynamics are done in 3rd gear on most scoobs iirc
