Default 1993 WRX wont go past 4500 revs!

Had bought a 1993 GL Scooby with WRX engine conversion last month. Everthing working fine, but suddenly, after accelarating from 0-70 my revs wont go above 4500 revs. Anyone no why this would be? i think its probably the turbo as the car feels sluggish even driving it slowly now.

Any advice?

Blocked exhaust cats? Turbo issues, Fuelling problems just to list a few areas of possible problems.

Sounds like the ECU is in 'limp mode' this happens when there is a fault, the ECU shuts down into safe mode to save the engine.
Do a fault code check and if all is well then reset the ECU.

See here how to

is the speedo still working?

no speed input causes ecu to restrict rpm to 4500rpm

no, speedo is not workin actually! its stopped at least 3 days before, but didnt have the issue straight away. I presume the speedo not working is a blown fuse? i was probably doing around 130mph, and being as the car used to be a GL the speedo only goes to 120, so thats probably caused the problem. If i fix the speedo will the ECU allow past 4500rvs?

yes..

assuming as it is a WRX engine rather than UK, it will have WRX box and therefore be cable driven.. broken speedo cable.

You might need to reset the ecu afterwards to clear the ecu

Had same on my MY93 after fitting boost gauge, luckily mine had just come out of back of clock due to my heavy hand, up back of dash pushed back in, fine.
