Default HELP??

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have recently just acquired a 96 wrx and it wont rev over 4500. Its seems like the limiter is set at 4500revs and not 8500. Can anyone shed some light on this rather annoying situation as to how i can get it "de limited" Thanks

Limp home mode i expect you have limited boost as well (8500rpm is a bit high for a wrx rev limit as well).
does the CEL come on?

ive had only had the car a couple of days and it did go up to nearly 8500 revs once.so could this be a loose wire or something to do with the ecu?

Even though the cel didn't come on check here on how to read error codes on classic ecus www.JollyGreenMonster.com - Engine management specialist

Limp home mode is ecu related (does the speedo work?)
