Hi all. I'm looking for help. Just bought a 99 Impreza STi. When I put the foot down (in any gear) the car gains power until 4500 revs but then loses all power and begins to shudder.

Check engine light is on constantly but oil temp is normal.

Anyone know what's going on? Please dont tell me turbo is blown :-(

 

Hi mate, sounds like your car has gone into limp home mode which means your boost/ timing Etc is being retarded due to a fault some where or a faulty sensor, do an ecu check to see what fault code comes up, there are some connectors under the steering colum, 2 blacks and 2 greens, connect the 2 blacks together and the check engine light will give a morse code to indicate a certain sensor, long flashes = 10 and short flashes = 1 so 2 long flashes with 2 short flashes =code 22

is ur speedo working if not this can cause the limp mod?

 

Yeah speedo works fine. It's bizarre. Everything seems OK (beside check engine light being on). The engine seems to be making a whining niose too. I'm a newbie to Imprezas so this may not be unusual.
