Default What turbo?

Im thinking about upgrading my tdo5 turbo but i don't know what to go for. I want a turbo with a quick spool, i want it to keep boosting high up in rev range(not give up at 5500rpm) and be good for 350bhp.

Id suggest there is something wrong with your current td05 then as it should not give up boosting at 5500rpm.

Sure its not a td04 as its a wagon?that would be the kind of thing id expect to happen at higher revs

Agree, not worth changing unless you have a) a TD04 b) your TD05 is faulty. The latter is a perfectly good turbo for that level. A 34 would be a bit quicker to spool, but when you consider the cost and the magnitude of the gain, prob not worth it!

What other supporting mods do you have?

MY96 import wagons have a TD04, so a 90degree (snorkel) TD05 is what you need, plus a remap.

Theres one for £100 in the For Sale section at the moment, aslo have a look at the ESL website for remapping options

td05 18g should see your 350, as said the vf34/vf35 are options but the direction will be an issue

Would the turbo act like it is if it hasn't had a remap since fitting, would the ecu still think its a td04?.
Ive never actually checked to see what turbo is on it as i was told by previous owner that the turbo had been upgraded from a td04 to a td05. At the time this meant nothing to me as im a scooby virgin and simply thought yeh more power. So me thinks i had better check tomoz, might be a good idea.

Yep, the OE wagon map tapers boost down to about 0.6 bar at the top.

Well it did on my MY94 wagon

Checked turbo, it is tdo5. So it looks like ive gotta spend more money( wot a surprise) and get an Apexi Power fc so that car can be remapped. I was gonna go down the daughter board route (ESL) but think the Apexi is a better option.

If you plan to map above 1 bar then you'll need the apexi boost kit, or the AVCR (or any other boost controller. Considering the cost of PFC and EBC I'd look at the Simtek too, however the ESL live mapping is very good.

For me to say i'd like to go beyond 1.0 bar would be silly, i don't know what bar means. Ive seen it mentioned many times here on SN and figured it meant the level of boost but i thought thats what PSI was as well so basically i aint gotta clue. You say the ESL is very good, how would you say it compares to an Apexi pfc

What turbo do you have Tidgy, as I have a VF28 running 1.45bar at 320bhp?

Could be tempted with whatever you have and another remap.......
