Default Why Would You Want To Weld Closed The EGR Valve??

Hi Guys,

I've just been talking to someone about polishing my inlet manifold instead of the usaul painting it red.

In so doing, he said that he can weld close the EGR valve for me, as it would help with air flow.

Now I've had the EGR system removed from my RS2000 in the past and it did help, and as I've not got a cat anymore I don't need the EGR valve (I'm assuming that it working the same as the RS2000 and the EGR warms up the cat)

Now my question, would this really help? Could it damage anything by removing it? and where is it, I've not been able to find it in any diagrams?

Cheers all

Question

I've no idea, but these guys claim that they do.

Here's one of their manifold on eBay as an example.

EGR valve on a scoob? New one on me. I think the n/a (non turbo) Imprezas may have had them, but not having played with any n/a Imprezas I wouldn't know for sure.

I wonder if he means the PCV valve (Postive crankcase ventilation)?

Would welding that up be benificial? or will it harm the Engine in any way?

The manifold shown still has the PCV valve in place.
They've also put crinkle paint on the mating faces of the throttle body and air by pass valve - not a great idea to get a gas tight join.

Not an EGR on newer cars - its a system that pumps fresh air after the exhaust valves to burn up fuel on a cold cat.
